therapy & Somatic Experiencing

Have you lost hope that you can change?

I can help. We all have a natural ability to heal and change.

“It is the body that keeps the score.”  - Bessal Van Der Kolk, MD. leading trauma specialist. If you have experienced any level of trauma then you already know it is in your body. You’ve tried talk therapy, and realized nothing much has changed. You struggle with being able to pause or feel safe. You struggle with a substance, or a relationship.

I specialize in trauma and addiction. Often the two go hand and hand. I also know once we stop the substance abuse, or addictive behavior, feelings and behaviors can become apparent and painful.

It’s like going to the hardware store for milk, you know you won’t get your needs met but you keep showing up anyhow.

Clearly we know the problem, but what about a solution?

Yes, the body holds the pain. The good news here is that the body also holds the key to healing and change.

In other words, we all have a natural ability to rebound from trauma and heal ourselves. We can discharge trauma and rewire the neuropaths in the brain. We know this now from science.

How do we discharge trauma from the body?

I am a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and am also trained in Brainspotting, a body based method very similar to EMDR. I use these modalities to help discharge trauma and rewire the brain.

So what does this look like in a session?

First, we will talk, but definitely not as much as you are used to. I will ask you to pause often, to notice sensations in your body. We will work together to create new neuropaths to retrain your brain toward healing and peace.
I am direct, personable, and honest.
I want this to be a helpful, safe, healing experience for you.
I know that healing at any level is also about relationships. I also know for this to work we have to be a right fit.
